Google announced a new feature today. This will allow the Google app to automatically summarize an article for you.
Google app automatically summarizes articles
When you search for information on the internet, you first have to browse the search results to find the right website with the answer to your question. Then you sometimes spend a little while reading the text on the website. With some websites, reading through takes quite a lot of time, because you don’t always find your answer immediately.
Google will give you a helping hand with the latter. In the beta version of the Google app on iPhone (and Android), you can easily consult additional explanations or even a short summary of a website. The search giant will use AI (artificial intelligence) for this.
In the English examples show Google how you can request an explanation for some important words in the search results. You then tap on the underlined word and a small window appears with the additional information.
Another way in which Google will soon help you find information even faster is through the function they call ‘SGE while browsing’. This will soon allow Google to make a short summary with important points for you on (some) websites. You can then click on these links and Google will immediately open the correct part of the website.
At this time, these features are only available in the beta version of the Google app through ‘Search Labs’. At Search Labs you can try out these kinds of test versions of Google. Unfortunately, this option is currently only (limited) available for US residents.
