Google is discontinuing the Chromecast
The news about the Chromecast can be read in a blog post of August 6. It also states that Chromecast devices will remain available while supplies last. However, no new models will be released. Recent models will also be provided with software and security updates. However, Google has not yet indicated which models are and are not included.
Since the introduction of the Chromecast, the technology has evolved enormously according to Google and is often supported as standard in smart TVs, with or without Android TV. 11 years of Chromecast
The first Chromecast appeared on the market in 2013: a dongle that you could connect to an HDMI port on your TV. You could then stream images from your iPhone to your TV. In the years that followed, various versions appeared, including a Chromecast Audio that Google then discontinued in 2019.
In 2020, a Chromecast with Google TV 4K was released, a version including a remote control. You could also use this Chromecast without a smartphone. In 2022, Google released the cheaper Chromecast with Google TV HD, which had the same design, but supported a maximum of 1080p. Google has sold more than 100 million units of the Chromecast in eleven years.
