Here’s what you need to know about Apple Music Voice

If you have the necessary smart devices at home, there is a chance that you also use speech assistants. By means of voice commands you can easily turn on the lights, turn up the thermostat or play some music. If you swear by that, you’ll be delighted that Apple is launching a special Siri subscription for Apple Music. But there are some snags to it.

The so-called Apple Music Voice subscription is a lot cheaper than the other subscription forms of the streaming service. In the United States, the subscription price is $5 per month, and you get access to the entire Apple Music catalog just like any other subscription.

This is half the price of the standard subscription of $9.99 per month. No price in euros has yet been announced for the Voice subscription. For a regular subscription to Apple Music you pay 9.99 euros per month in the Netherlands or 4.99 euros if you are a student.

Limits

The Voice subscription does have a major limitation: you can only listen to music by asking Siri to play the songs. Depending on your device, you can still control music outside of Siri, but the options are limited. This way you can on a iPhone pause or fast-forward songs, but you always need Siri to start the music.

In short, you cannot use the full Apple Music app. Also, if you want the premium features like Spatial Audio, Lossless Audio, lyrics, music videos and more, then you need to upgrade to the normal bundle as well.

Get Apple Music Voice subscription

You can subscribe to Apple Music Voice via Siri, by saying Hey Siri, start my Apple Music Voice trial. You can also sign up through the Apple Music app. Once you’ve subscribed, Apple Music Voice lets you play music on all Siri-enabled devices, such as HomePod mini, AirPods, iPhone, or other Apple devices, and CarPlay. Siri has also been updated with new playlists for moods and activities, such as dining with friends and relaxing before bed.

The Voice plan has been available since iOS 15.2, which was recently released. In the coming months, the subscription will be rolled out in 17 countries, including some European countries such as Germany, France, Italy and Spain. It is not yet known whether the Siri subscription will also be available in the Netherlands or Belgium, but this is obvious.
