There have been rumors for a while that a new HomePod is coming, but so far Apple has not announced anything. Yet they have not forgotten the current HomePod and HomePod Mini, because both speakers get two functions with the software update to iOS 26 (and HomePod 26).

For example, a number of users already have the beta version on their homepod. There they have now discovered two interesting new functions for the HomePod. These innovations make the smart speaker just a little better and more user -friendly.

1. Change WiFi manually on the HomePod with iOS 26

The HomePod automatically connects to the same WiFi network as your iPhone or iPad. But in practice this is sometimes difficult to correct or check with connection problems.

With iOS 26, that now seems to change. A new screen has appeared in the settings of the HomePod. This allows you to manually view and select a WiFi network. This is useful, among other things, when you regularly move the HomePod to another location.

2. Crossfade option for Apple Music on HomePod

Another new function is the addition of Crossfade for Apple Music. This feature ensures that numbers merge smoothly, without hard transitions. You can set how many seconds the transition takes (according to messages from 1 to a maximum of 12 seconds). This function was already available on the iPhone, iPad and Mac, but now also on the HomePod.
