Honda brings Transalp back on the market

In addition to the Hornet, there is another Gouwe Ouwe who is going to make his comeback at Honda. Big Red has re-established the name Transalp in various countries worldwide.

Honda brings Transalp back on the market

The longstanding rumor that Honda is working on a smaller version of the Africa Twin has been buzzing for several years and the recent adoption of the Transalp name is confirmation of that rumor.

Given the great success of the Africa Twin, the idea of a small Africa Twin was not such a crazy idea. Add to that the rich history of the name Transalp and one plus one equals two.

Sure, recording a name is not strictly speaking a guarantee that a model will actually be put on the market under that name, but we think it must go very crazy if Honda does not want to bring the Transalp back to life in the foreseeable future. wake up.

More than that Honda has established the XL750 Transalp name is not known, Honda of course keeps its lips tight, so we can only guess what we can expect from the new Transalp.

Should Honda pick up where they left off with the XL700V with the XL750 Transalp, the new little one Africa Twin will be more street-oriented than off-road. The looks of an Allroad, but mainly intended for street use.

Kind of like the Suzuki V-Strom: it can hold its own on a dirt road, but real enduro rides will probably be too much of a good thing. The Transalp for the light work, the Africa Twin for the real heavy work.

Yet it is not entirely inconceivable that Honda will give the new XL750 Transalp more off-road DNA than its predecessor. With the fall of the supersport segment, all manufacturers have shifted their focus to off-road and to compete with the Ténéré 700, Tuareg 660, 890 Adventure and F 850 GS.

What else can be derived from the name XL750 Transalp? It is obvious that it will be powered by a two-cylinder with a capacity of 750cc, and from the lack of the letter V in the type name XL750 you could deduce that it is not a V-twin but a parallel twin.

Let Honda already have a 745cc parallel twin in its range, for the NC platform and the X-ADV. However, for use in a new Transalp, that block would have to be pimped a bit. With the NC models, the 745cc parallel twin produces 54 hp, where the Ténéré 73 hp and the Tuareg even 80 hp.

In a few months we will probably know, we assume that the new Transalp will be unveiled by Honda at the end of this year, at the EICMA in Milan or online through its own channels.
