Honda has for the compact electric car Honda e won the prestigious Red Dot Design. The car is now on display in the associated museum in Essen, as one of the ‘Milestones in Contemporary Design’.

Recently, the internationally acclaimed Red Dot Awards were presented to the winners. Among them was Honda, for a motorcycle and a car: the electric Honda e. The compact e even received two Red Dot awards: the ‘Best of the Best 2020’ for groundbreaking product design and ‘Smart Products’ for smart design.

The Honda e is not just a car, it is so much more

Regarding the latter, Red Dot CEO Peter Zec says: “I think the Honda e represents some sort of paradigm shift (revolution – ed.): We’re not just talking about e-mobility, we’re talking about new solutions in the digital world and the Honda e fits in perfectly with this. ” As an example of ‘design for the future of urban mobility’, Zec mentions the camera system that replaces the side mirrors. But of course the stylish and aerodynamic appearance of the compact car is also worthy of an award. An international expert jury has extensively evaluated, tested and discussed all submissions.

Since the end of June – and up to and including May 2021 – all winners of the Red Dot Design Awards 2020 can be seen in the associated museum in Essen, Germany. That is not far from the Dutch border, where the former coal mine complex is the perfect location for a nice outing. The Honda e is one of the products that are central to the special exhibition ‘Milestones in Contemporary Design’ (‘milestones in contemporary design’).
