Huawei has launched its next foldable smartphone at a launch event: the Huawei Mate Xs 2. The device again has a screen that folds on the outside. Furthermore, the Huawei Watch GT3 Pro has been announced along with the Huawei Band 7 fitness tracker.
Huawei Mate Xs 2
A new generation of Huawei’s foldable Mate X series is ready, the brand announced during a event in China† The Huawei Mate Xs 2 is again a device with the screen folding on the outside, unlike its predecessor the Mate X2 which still folded on the inside. Huawei’s latest device thus follows the path of the Mate Xs, which also folded outwards.
It is striking that compared to its predecessor, this phone has a somewhat smaller 7.8 inch screen when you unfold it. The Mate X2 had an 8.0 inch panel. Huawei uses a Full HD AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and when folded there is a smaller 6.5-inch panel. It is remarkable that this time Huawei puts a 32 MP selfie camera in the screen, because the company previously believed that users would use the main camera for selfies. In addition to the main camera, there is a screen that can serve as a viewfinder.
Bigger battery and Harmony OS
Huawei can no longer build its own chipsets, which is why the brand uses Qualcomm’s processors. However, it is not the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but a 4G version of the Snapdragon 888. The brand is not allowed to use 5G technology due to trade sanctions.
The Mate Xs 2 has a 66W fast charger instead of the 55W charger of its predecessor and despite the smaller housing, the battery capacity has improved. The phone comes with a 4,880 mAh battery compared to the 4,500 mAh one in the Mate X2. The camera(s) consist of a 50 MP main lens, a 13 MP wide-angle lens and an 8 MP telephoto camera. The Mate Xs 2 works with Harmony OS 2 and you cannot use Google apps on Play Store with that.
The Mate Xs 2 has only been presented in China and it is not known whether it will also come to the Netherlands and Belgium. The device is cheaper than its predecessors, which each cost 2,499 euros. The Mate Xs 2 costs, converted and with application of our VAT, 1,739 euros.
Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro
Huawe has also announced a pro version of its Watch GT 3, which we were able to test at the editorial office recently. The Pro version comes in two models: the Watch GT 3 Pro Titanium and the Watch GT 3 Pro Ceramic. The Titanium is the largest model with a size of 46.6 mm and a 1.43 inch screen. It is available with a rubber or leather strap and has a titanium case. The Ceramic is of course finished with ceramics and has a 42.9 mm format and a 1.32 inch screen. For the two models, it is an AMOLED panel that is protected against scratches by high-quality sapphire glass.
The two watches run on Huawei’s Harmony OS 2 system and go one step further than the Watch GT 3 when it comes to tracking sports activities. For example, there is a comprehensive analysis of the sports performance of divers. They can monitor their dive speed and depth, breathing training is also provided and the watch provides safety alerts. There are also such extensive functionalities for golfers. They can analyze their stroke and receive tips. Finally, the Watch GT 3 Pro also has built-in maps of 300 golf courses.
The Titanium version can last 14 days on a single charge, or 8 days with heavy use. For the Ceramic this is 7 or 4 days respectively. It is not yet known whether the Watch GT 3 Pro will also be released outside of China. Converted and subject to VAT, it costs at least 432 euros. The Watch GT 3 is for sale from 299.99 euros.
Huawei Band 7
And as the latest new product, there is the even more affordable Band 7, which is the latest in a series of fitness trackers. The Band 7 has a 1.46 inch AMOLED screen with a rectangular shape. It is a millimeter thinner than its predecessor and lets you choose from 8,000 dials. The battery lasts for 14 days and after that you have to connect the magnetic charger.
The Band 7 comes with a heart rate sensor and it costs EUR 46.72, converted and with VAT. Nothing is known about the price in the Netherlands and Belgium and you can see it below with straps in four different colors.
