Huawei releases excellent and beautiful smartwatches that also have a very long battery life. Read the review of the Huawei Watch GT 5 46mm here, which is mainly intended for workouts and health measurements.

We have been charmed by the smartwatches that Huawei has released for years. For example, the very nice Watch GT 4 series offers a lot of functionality, the measurements have been improved and the battery life is top. Add to that the beautiful, high-quality design of this smartwatch, and the GT 4 is highly recommended.
Moreover, with a Huawei smartwatch you are not tied to the ecosystem of, for example, Apple or Samsung. These smart watches work in combination with Android and iOS and there is a very wide choice of variants and models.
We look at the GT 5 46mm model, a beautiful, sporty and solid watch primarily for workouts and health measurements. Other variants include the 41mm GT 5, the 46mm GT 5 Pro, the Ultimate called Fairway Green and the D2 has been announced with an advanced blood pressure management system.

Design Huawei Watch GT 5
This 46mm model is expected to become the most popular model due to its solid housing and favorable price. The test model, the blue variant with a uniquely designed matching strap with stitching, provides an extra sporty look. The stainless steel case has 8 surfaces with an edge with colors that match the strap. Other options are brown and black. The image is displayed on a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen with 416 x 416 pixels and provides a clear and easy to read image. Operation is carried out via a rotary and push button. The housing can withstand 5 ATM (50m) underwater and meets the IP69K standard, so it can be used under all extreme conditions. The 41mm model has a smaller screen and battery, is for smaller wrists and has a less sporty but more elegant look.

Technology
Control takes place via Harmony OS with its own App Store and works with Android and iOS phones. 7 sensors provide input for the workouts and health measurements. Wireless communication is available via NFC, Wi-Fi 3, BT5.2 and multiple GPS systems. A speaker and microphone are integrated into the device. The watch’s clearly audible voice is in English. The phone communicates with the Huawei Health app, in our test this is iOS. The battery life is about a week and a half with normal use and drops to about 5 days with Always-On activated. Charging from 0% to 100% takes 70 minutes via a wireless Qi adapter.
Because the integration with Android and iOS is at a lower level, it must be taken into account that less functionality is available. Consider the availability of certain apps and smart integration, such as that of Google, and NFC payments.

GT 5 compared to GT 4
Improvements compared to the GT 4 are the longer battery life, more advanced and accurate health measurements, faster processor, new variants and models, latest software versions and improved GPS accuracy. It is nice that a workout that uses GPS can be made into an accelerated video via Dynamic Tracking with the route and map (à la Google Maps) as the background. This watch is primarily about broad support for workouts and health measurement in combination with a sporty appearance. Health+ is an optional subscription for a personal health partner to further analyze and optimize your performance.

Conclusion
The Huawei GT 5 46mm is a nice, solid watch with a sporty look, a very long battery life and can be used in combination with an Android or iOS smartphone. Because Harmony OS is used with its own app store, the app support is less than for smartphones with direct integration with Android or iOS.
