Tucson in the lead
Like almost every other major car manufacturer, Hyundai also has huge production facilities in various countries. In one of them, there was cause for celebration recently. Hyundai has produced its four millionth car at its plant in Nošovice, Czech Republic.
In 2008, Hyundai first cranked up the production tires of its Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech (HMMC) factory in Nošovice, Czech Republic, and fourteen years later, the four millionth Hyundai left the factory gates. The automotive birthday girl is the Hyundai Tucson, more precisely an N Line with a mild-hybrid powertrain. That model is also for sale in the Netherlands and is sold here side by side with a full-fledged hybrid and a plug-in hybrid Tucson.
The Tucson is of course not the only Hyundai to see the light of day in the Czech Republic. Initially, the Koreans only produced the i30 and that model family is still being produced there. In 2011, the production portfolio of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech was expanded with the iX35, the SUV that has been called Tucson again since its penultimate generation change in 2015. Since 2020, the electric Kona has also been rolling off the production line in the Czech Republic.
In Hyundai’s statistics, the Tucson does quite well, especially in Europe. In the first six months, the Tucson was the most popular model in its segment with 77,459 units delivered in Europe. It is therefore not surprising that the majority of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Czech’s production capacity is reserved for the Tucson. The i30 accounts for about 17 percent of HMMC’s production, the Kona Electric in turn for 10 percent. The rest (73 percent) is accounted for by the Tucson.
In 2021, the Tucson was the most popular Hyundai in the Netherlands for the first time in years. 2,870 copies found a new Dutch owner in that year. In the first ten months of 2022, the i10 (3,455 units) is more popular in the Netherlands than the Tucson, although the latter is quite close to the i10 in the Dutch sales statistics with 3,295 units.
