Hyundai is speeding up its ‘flying car’ plans. As early as 2025, it should be possible to get into a flying taxi from the Korean car manufacturer. General Motors is also working, but according to the same reports, it will take until 2030.
Hyundai already set up a separate division in 2019 for the development of what we will briefly call flying cars. According to the Koreans, the ultimate vision of the future from comics is less far away than you think.
Hyundai previously mentioned 2028 as the starting year, now that may be three years earlier. Speaking to Reuters, COO Jose Munoz said it should be possible to board a Hyundai-built flying taxi as early as 2025 “and maybe even earlier”, starting at American airports.
With these flying cars, don’t think of a car that can also fly, such as the Dutch Pal-V Liberty. The ‘car’ part of the Hyundai concept mainly means that it is about individual transport, initially in the form of a taxi and thus with a driver who hopefully knows what he or she is doing. Another important difference with regular aircraft is that they must be electric flying machines. Hyundai previously showed such a device in the form of the S-A1.
Hyundai is certainly not the only company involved in this concept. In addition to numerous start-ups and tech companies, we also find countless car manufacturers in this pond, including General Motors. That also signals a possible starting year to Reuters: Americans hope to be there by 2030.
