Second time a Kona, now a hybrid
We drove the electric version of the first generation Hyundai Kona as an endurance tester, with the new one we chose the Hybrid. The technology of the Hyundai Kona is an old acquaintance, because earlier this year we drove its cousin, the Kia Niro Hybrid.
The fact that we are going for the hybrid also has to do with the mix of our endurance test fleet. It is currently quite electric. We will certainly put our hybrid Kona next to a Kona Electric and let’s also include the ‘most normal’ Kona, the version with a 1.0 three-cylinder turbo with mild-hybrid technology. A Hyundai Kona is certainly not ordinary to look at; It is noticeable that the styling goes one step further than the previous generation. With the first Kona, the Electric was the eye-catcher with its different front. As a hybrid, our endurance tester has the continuous LED bar in the nose as a striking detail, although the Kona is actually special from all angles.
The Kona Hybrid will soon compete against a Toyota Corolla Cross, because we want to see whether the new Kona has really moved up a segment or perhaps still floats between the B and C segments. Nowadays this is often difficult to determine and such a comparative test helps with this.
