Hyundai: ‘Prophecy Concept heralds the new Ioniq’

Hyundai drew a lot of attention with the specially designed Prophecy Concept from earlier this year. A slippery car that reflects part of the brand’s electric future. Now it turns out to be a preview of the next Ioniq.

More and more brands are adding their electric cars neatly between the existing models. This is also the case with Hyundai, which, for example, with the Kona Electric and Ioniq Electric does not display too broadly on some external adjustments after the electric drivetrain. This will change in the near future. The fully electric ’45’, for example, has a clearly alternative bow. The Prophecy Concept follows a completely different design philosophy than the 45, but we also see that design broadly reflected on an EV.

Speaking to AutoExpress, SangYup Lee, head of Hyundai’s Global Design Center, explains that the Prophecy is a harbinger of the next Ioniq. According to him, it will be on the market after 45. “Those two cars demonstrate how much we can do on the design spectrum,” says Lee proudly. Two total extremes that will stand side by side in the showroom. “It is said that you have to apply certain standards with similar grilles and headlights that look alike, but we want to approach it differently. The cars will look completely different.”

In terms of technology, the 45 and the Ioniq will, of course, largely match. Like the 45, the next Ioniq is enthroned on Hyundai’s modular EV platform, E-GMP. In terms of specifications, Hyundai keeps a good secret of what to expect. The 45 will likely show up before the end of this year, so more information will follow sometime in the coming months. The new Ioniq will arrive at the end of 2021 at the earliest, but expect 2022.
