Distinct exterior design is not limited to regular passenger cars at Hyundai. The brand comes with a new passenger bus that will be fitted with a very extravagant carriage.
In 2020, our spy photographer presented us with a very remarkable set of photos. The plates showed a packed passenger bus that seems to get a very remarkable design. We already suspected that it was a Hyundai and now that brand itself announces the arrival of its new pronounced space giant. We welcome: the Staria.
Hyundai describes the Staria as an MPV with futuristic design. That doesn’t seem to be a lie. The new colossus has a very flat sloping nose where the hood and windscreen more or less merge into each other, just like with MPVs of the old school. The Staria will have a thin strip of LED daytime running lights that runs the full width of the front. Just like with cars like the Bayon, Kona and Santa Fe, we find the actual headlights one floor below. The Staria creates connotations with a spaceship and with that we seem back to square one. After all, were MPVs not referred to as ‘space cars’ in the very beginning?

By the way, do not count on all Starias to be as spacious as the car from which Hyundai is now releasing teaser plates. This is a Premium version. If we look at Hyundai’s current range, we come across the Starex there – outside the Netherlands. The current Starex is in fact a multiple facelifted H300, the same generation that was presented in 2007 and was also available in the Netherlands. There are already very richly equipped versions of the Starex that are aimed at passenger transport. The Staria Premium that Hyundai shows on this set of teaser plates, undoubtedly looks ahead to such new luxurious versions of the soon to be new Starex / H300. We do not expect the successor to the current Starex to come to the Netherlands. In any case, Hyundai emphasizes that the Staria Premium will be sold in ‘a limited number of markets’. A pity, because the Staria promises to be an extremely special appearance!
