Hyundai Tucson – Back to Basics

With its LED daytime running lights integrated into the grille, the Hyundai Tucson is quite a striking appearance. You do not have to pay extra for that, but what else is standard on and on? Time to grab the configurator.

Hyundai Tucson i-Motion 1.6 T-GDI 48V 6iMT

€ 34,995

The Tucson comes in three different flavors. The 150 hp 1.6 T-GDI mild hybrid forms the bottom of the range. Above that is the 1.6 T-GDI HEV with 230 hp, which has a hybrid powertrain. The strongest motorization is the 1.6 T-GDI PHEV, a plug-in hybrid with a system power of 265 hp. Due to their partly electric powertrains, the HEV and the PHEV are only available with automatic transmission. The mild hybrid is also available with a manual gearbox, which is the cheapest variant. Compared to the similarly equipped HEV i-Motion, it saves € 2,955. If you check the seven-speed automatic transmission with double clutch, the price difference will shrink to only € 955. The PHEV is only available from the more expensive Comfort equipment level and must therefore yield at least € 43,000. Those trim levels are also extra important with the Tucson, because separate options are not available.

Separate accents

From the outside, the i-Motion is immediately recognizable by the accents on the front bumper and above the side windows, which have a blue-gray color. The characteristic grille is also not painted in dark chrome, but in silver gray. As mentioned in the introduction, the characteristic LED daytime running lights are standard. LED headlights are not there, halogen projection headlights illuminate the road in front of you. The distinctive LED bar adorns the back. The Tucson rolls in its base version on 17-inch alloy wheels. To make parking easier, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera are standard.

Since the Tucson is not a little boy, you may want to know that the side mirrors are electrically foldable. You also get a light and rain sensor. In terms of composition of the Tucson, there are no other wheel designs possible from the factory, but you can opt for the bright red ‘Engine Red’ in addition to the color ‘Polar White’ shown free of charge. For € 795 you can also choose from four different metallic paint colors and three pearlescent colors. Two-tone color schemes are unfortunately not available on the Tucson i-Motion.

Digital

Inside the Tucson it is black dust that keeps the clock. There are no other options on the i-Motion, which also applies to the accents and moldings. The interior also looks modern in the basic version, with the 10.25-inch digital instrument panel particularly striking. For multimedia, there is an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and DAB + as standard. The Comfort has a 10.25-inch touchscreen. Two-zone automatic air conditioning is also included.

In terms of safety systems, active and autonomous lane assistance are available, which means that the Tucson can follow the lane itself. Furthermore, the SUV is equipped with an emergency brake assistant with pedestrian and cyclist recognition. The Tucson also recognizes road signs. Adaptive cruise control is not available on the i-Motion, for that you have to look to the Comfort.

That is really necessary, because Hyundai does not do separate options. In addition to the i-Motion and Comfort, the Tucson is available as Comfort Smart, N Line and Premium. The latter two are also available in a ‘Sky’ variant, which additionally offers a panoramic roof. For € 3,000 on top of the price of the i-Motion, the Comfort offers a considerable jump in the equipment, including LED lighting, a dark chrome grille, heated front seats, adaptive cruise control and keyless entry. Comfort Smart adds a third zone for climate control, a premium audio system, heated steering wheel and Highway Driving Assist for an additional € 1,000. With the N Line, the Tucson gets a sportier appearance both outside and inside. On the Premium are things like ventilated front seats, a blind spot assistant and 19-inch wheels. The automatic transmission remains a pricey option for all versions of the 1.6 T-GDI.
