And there is more

BMW gaming

BMW is presenting a wide range of digital innovations at the CES in Las Vegas. This way you will soon be able to play games with all kinds of game controllers and watch TV in various models. BMW also shows glasses for Augmented Reality and looks ahead to a (automatic or otherwise) parking service.

You can slowly do almost the same things with the infotainment system of cars as you can with a tablet, for example. This is also proven by BMW, which is introducing a number of striking extensions to its BMW Operating System. This way you will soon be able to play more games on your infotainment screen (provided you have Operating System 9 and BMW Digital Premium). And that’s not all; It will also be possible to do this, if desired, in pairs, via Bluetooth with various game controllers. Also new is the game Beach Buggy Racing 2.

Watching TV and Augmented Reality

Would you prefer more passive entertainment? Then it will eventually be possible (as is already possible with some other car manufacturers) to watch TV on the screen on the dashboard. A range of live TV channels will be available in the video app of BMW’s Operating System 8.5 and 9, but this does not yet apply to the Dutch market. According to BMW, the intention is to expand it to more countries, so there is a good chance that it will eventually be our turn.

Even further in the future lies the application of Augmented Reality (AR) while driving. BMW presents glasses in Las Vegas with which AR visualizations can be seen. This allows you to see, for example, navigation instructions, warnings, information about charging stations and useful visualizations in parking situations.

Nice chat and parking

Before that happens, you can at least make driving a little more pleasant with the help of the voice assistant. It becomes ‘smarter’, with the help of artificial intelligence, for which BMW collaborates with Amazon (Alexa). ‘Human-like dialogues’ and ‘complex processing capabilities’ will eventually be added. The improved voice assistant will be rolled out in BMW Operating System 9 during the course of this year.

Finally, BMW is working on an automatic parking service. This should make it possible in the future to hand over your car to a (digital or otherwise) valet service. There are two options: the car will park itself thanks to autonomous driving technology, or someone will park your BMW remotely. The photo below shows the second situation. BMW is working with Valeo to develop autonomous parking.
