In iOS 18 it is possible to rename Siri. You can then activate the voice assistant with your own chosen name.
iOS 18: Rename Siri
The voice assistant Siri is extremely useful. However, Siri sometimes activates at times when you haven’t asked her anything at all. Then you probably said something like “Hey Siri” that woke her up.
In iOS 18 this will soon be a thing of the past, because you can then rename Siri. If you give the voice assistant in iOS 18 a name that’s quite unique, you’re much less likely to accidentally launch Siri. And it is of course also a great option if you are tired of the name Siri. To rename the voice assistant, follow the steps below.
How to Rename Siri in iOS 18
- Open iOS 18 settings;
- Scroll down and choose ‘Accessibility’;
- Scroll down again and tap ‘Voice Commands’;
- Choose ‘Configure voice commands’;
- Tap ‘Continue’ and choose ‘Siri’ under the System heading;
- Type Siri’s new name in the input box and tap ‘Go’;
- Say the new name three times and Siri’s renaming is complete.
Siri gets even better in iOS 18
Another big change in iOS 18 is that Siri can have a conversation in a much more natural way. Currently it still uses the wooden robot voice, but that will become much smoother after the update. That is not the most important update that Siri will receive in 2024, because with iOS 18 the voice assistant will be much better integrated with ChatGPT and Apple’s Shortcuts app. This allows many more actions to be performed.
The Shortcuts app is for performing automations and other actions on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac. After the update, Siri will work together with Shortcuts, allowing the voice assistant to perform multiple tasks in succession. For example, in iOS 18, Siri could take five photos, turn them into a GIF, and then send that GIF to a friend in a single command.
