Nissan opts for a gradual launch of the new Qashqai. Blame the brand, expectations are high given the great success of the model. This time we get to see the SUV inside.
Nissan has a completely new third generation of the Qashqai behind the scenes. In November, Nissan released the first information about the technology of the new Qashqai and this time the brand sheds a light on the inside. It should come as no surprise that the interior is worlds apart from the cockpit of the current model. That is of course not surprising, the Qashqai has been in showrooms in its current form since 2013 and has certainly never been significantly modernized over the years.
Screens with screens
Despite the darkness, the images that Nissan shows give a decent impression of the workplace. The first thing that strikes you is that Nissan is moving the new up to 9-inch infotainment system from the center of the center console to a place above it. The screen protrudes more or less from the dashboard and is now at the same height as the instruments. In the new Qashqai, that is not always a copy with analog clocks. Nissan introduces the top versions to a 12.3-inch digital clock shop. The basic versions, however, get analog clocks with a decent digital display in between.

More screen fun comes in the form of an optional 10.8-inch head-up display. The whole is actually – in color – projected on the windscreen and provides information about speed and navigation, among other things. Versions with the more extensive infotainment system come hand in hand with a phone application that allows you to unlock the Qashqai and activate the lights and horn. The Juke was previously introduced to this system. Later you can also chat to the Qashqai, for example to adjust the temperature.
Design
Although the interior is clearly much more contemporary, you should not expect exuberant or minimalist design as in, for example, the new Tucson. After all, the Qashqai is not the car for that. As far as design is concerned, the whole will not be upset with anyone. Anyone who orders the new Qashqai with an automatic transmission will look in vain for a conventional automatic transmission lever. Nissan has chosen to place a small selector lever in the middentunnel with which you can control the machine. The four-wheel drive versions have a rotary knob at the bottom, with which you can choose from the various driving modes.

Equipment
Nissan proudly reports that it is pumping the new Qashqai with new and higher-quality materials. Among other things, lined nappa leather with a diamond pattern will be available for the seat covers. Nissan gives the Qashqai white mood lighting that is now visible in more places than before. More pampering comes in the form of front seats with massage function, although these massage seats are reserved for the top version. Nissan also puts an electric tailgate and a Bose audio system with ten speakers on the delivery list, but these systems are also not on the basic versions. Also available soon: an inductive charger for smartphones and a whole range of USB-A and USB-C ports.
Space
Techzle previously reported that the new Qashqai with its length of 4.43 meters will be 3.5 centimeters longer in total than the current model. The wheelbase grows by 2 centimeters to 2.67 meters. It also expands in width, with a thickness of 3 centimeters. Knee room increases by 3 inches and headroom grows by 1.5 inches both in the front and back. With a volume of 504 liters, the luggage compartment is no less than 74 liters larger than that of the current Qashqai.

The Qashqai has turned out to be a direct hit for Nissan. Since the arrival of the first generation in 2007, Nissan has sold well over three million Qashqais in Europe, while the SUV’s global sales counter well exceeds five million. Last year, the Qashqai was the brand’s best-selling model in the Netherlands, and although the current generation has been running since 2013, it is also the brand’s most popular car this year. A new Qashqai + 2 will of course not be available. Since the previous generation of Qashqai, the X-Trail has been considered the seven-seat alternative. Soon, Nissan will bring the Rogue, which is already available in the United States, to Europe as an X-Trail.
