iOS 17.2 beta 2 is out (with a completely new camera feature)

Apple has released the second test version of iOS 17.2! With iOS 17.2 beta 2, a completely new camera function comes to your iPhone. Unfortunately, the new feature is not available to everyone. You need to know this.

iOS 17.2 beta 2 can be installed

The second beta of iOS 17.2 can be installed! This is a small update, which brings a completely new camera function to your iPhone. With iOS 17.2 beta 2, it becomes possible to record spatial videos with your iPhone. These videos are recorded in 1080p at 30 frames per second. The special thing: the videos capture depth much better.

The fact that the depth in the videos is so important has to do with the Apple Vision Pro. The new camera function is mainly intended to make videos for Apple’s first headset. With iOS 17.2 beta 2 you can record spatial videos, which you can then watch back with the Apple Vision Pro. With the headset it seems as if you are really in the video, because you can also look around you while playing the video.

Apple Vision Pro won’t arrive until 2024

Unfortunately, you will have to wait a little longer to view the spatial videos in this way. The Apple Vision Pro will not be released until 2024 and will initially only come to the United States. Europe will follow much later, probably not until the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025. The videos that you now record with the new camera function in iOS 17.2 beta 2 will therefore only be able to be viewed as they were intended after some time.

A spatial video is played on an iPhone like a normal video. You then do not see the depth that you would with the Vision Pro. With the new camera function, you can make videos now and watch them later with Apple’s first headset. The new camera function in iOS 17.2 beta 2 is therefore mainly a nice feature for the future.

These iPhones will have the camera function

Unfortunately, the new camera feature will not come to every iPhone running iOS 17.2 beta 2. Only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can record spatial videos after installing the update. Fortunately, the final update of iOS 17.2 brings even more new features to your iPhone, so you can finally install the new Diary app and Apple Music will get new features.

That’s not all, because the Messages app also gets a handy feature, allowing you to respond to messages much faster. In addition, new widgets are coming to your iPhone and the action button of the iPhone 15 Pro (Max) will get a new function. Are you curious about all the changes in iOS 17.2?
