iPad Pro may get two cameras on the front and first an M5 chip

Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro will receive a second camera on the front according to a new report from Mark Gurman. In his last Newsletter reports Gurman That the new models, which are expected this fall, will receive an extra front camera on the portrait side, next to the existing camera on the landscape side.

This news follows earlier reports that Apple is already well advanced in testing an M5 chip in the new iPad Pro, which can contribute to faster performance and improved efficiency compared to previous models.

iPad Pro gets two FaceTime cameras

The upcoming generation of the iPad Pro would get a striking renewal: two cameras on the front. According to a new report by Mark Gurman, the latest iPad Pro models are equipped with these double facetime cameras. Although Apple has not yet revealed official details, sources suggest that this innovation is primarily aimed at improving video calling and taking photos.

When Apple moved the Facetime camera to the long (landscape) side at the M4 iPad Pro, that was a progress for users with a keyboard. For those who, however, hold the device in the traditional (portrait) way, video calling mainly became less practical. The addition of a second camera dissolves this, regardless of how to hold the iPad. iPados records the position of the screen and will then automatically choose the right camera.

Advantages for Face ID

Whether the extra camera system will actually be used for face recognition is not yet known. For Face ID not only cameras, but also various sensors are necessary. It is possible that Apple will use both cameras for face recognition, but no details are known about that.

First M5 chip

The iPad Pro 2025 will probably be the first Apple product with the new M5 chip. This first means that the iPad Pro already has this powerful processor before the next generation MacBook models, this was also the case with the M4 processor.

The M5 chip is based on TSMCs improved 3NM process technology and offers both performance and efficiency improvements compared to the predecessor, the M4 chip. The graphic performance (GPU) and AI processing is expected to take substantial steps forward, partly thanks to a renewed Neural Engine. As a result, the iPad Pro will soon be running more smoothly with heavy apps, multitasking and real-time AI tasks.

Unchanged design

The design remains largely the same as the iPad Pro 2024, which has already received a slimmer design and an advanced OLED screen. Big changes are therefore mainly in the small details and specifications, where improvements in the hardware and software will ensure new performance and efficiency.
