Apple will soon present a series of updates, including iPados 26 for the iPad. You need to know this about the big software update!
iPados 26
This year, iPados 26 is the update for the iPad! Where Apple released iPados 18 in 2024, the company makes the step to iPados 26 in one go this year. With this renewed numbering, Apple refers to 2026, the year in which iPados 26 will mainly be used. The most important change in the software version is the new interface, whereby Apple is said to take over many parts of Visionos.
Just like iOS 26, iPados 26 gets more transparent frameworks and glass elements. That is not all, because the majority of the applications get new symbols. According to rumors, these icons are round for the first time, instead of the square applications that we now see in iPados. In addition, standard apps such as the camera and the agenda app will receive a completely new layout in the next generation of the operating system.
Multitask
It is expected that iPados 26 will make it easier to multitask on the tablet. According to the usually reliable Apple connoisseur Mark Gurman, iPados 26 is more like macOS due to a number of new features. One of those functions is a menu bar, which appears as an external keyboard is connected to the iPad. We saw a similar menu bar earlier in Visionos, the operating system for the Apple Vision Pro.
Another feature that comes to iPados according to rumors is to fix files on the home screen. On the Mac (book) you can already pin documents on the desktop, but that is not yet possible on the iPad. That will change with iPados 26, because then you can probably add files to the home screen. That is especially useful if you use the iPad for a study or businesslike, you will soon have these documents to hand again.

Other improvements in iPados 26 have to do with Apple Intelligence, because the technology comes to more applications. For example, you can use Image Playground and Genmoji in more apps. The battery life of the tablet is also improved by improved integration of Apple Intelligence. It is still unclear when all the features of Apple Intelligence are available in Dutch, probably that only happens with a later update of iPados 26.
We don’t have to wait a long time for iPados 26, because Apple is already presenting the new software version Monday, June 9 at 7 p.m. (Dutch time).
