Apple has officially announced the iPhone 14 (Plus). Here’s everything you need to know about the new iPhone 14.
iPhone 14 is finally officially announced
Apple’s new flagship has finally been announced with a lot of spectacle! The iPhone 14 is now officially Apple’s newest phone. On the side of this model is also the iPhone 14 Plus with the same specifications, but with a larger screen. The iPhone 14 (Plus) is the smaller brother of the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Take a quick look at this page to check how they have been updated!
Two versions: iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
We really have to believe in it this year. We don’t have to count on an iPhone 14 mini. The small model with a screen diagonal of 5.4 inches disappears. We get the opposite instead: the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus. It is the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Apple itself says that you can read more text on this larger phone.
In addition, according to Apple, the battery is better. According to Apple, you can watch videos on a large Super Retina XDR screen for 26 hours.
The ‘normal’ iPhone 14 has a screen diagonal of 6.1 inches. We still don’t see ProMotion technology in this new iPhone. Although the Pro models already had this refresh rate of 120Hz (120 times per second) last year, this function is still reserved only for the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) after this announcement. However, there is a brightness of 1200 nits and an OLED display on both the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus.
Hardware: improved A15 Bionic chip
Apple pretended it was the biggest news in the world; the iPhone 14 (Plus) gets a (slightly better) A15 Bionic chip. What you may not know is that we already know this chip from the iPhone 13 series. According to Apple, it is 18 percent faster than the old A15 chip. Why Apple has not given this chip a new name is still fairly unclear to us. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will get a new A16 Bionic chip.
iPhone 14 (Plus) camera is better in low light
Finally! The (selfie) camera of the iPhone 14 (Plus) has been improved. With a better aperture (from ƒ/2.2 to ƒ/1.9), the camera can handle low light better. For example, in low light it can film and shoot 49 percent better. The entry-level model of Apple’s new flagship does not get macro photography. However, you can use portrait mode with the selfie camera.
This front camera is a TrueDepth camera and will receive support for ‘Autofocus’. All your photos, no matter how far you are from the sensor, will be razor sharp. Image stabilization has also been improved when shooting video. This is what Apple calls “Action Mode.” The special new ‘Movie mode’ automatically focuses the iPhone 14 (Plus) on the most important subject in the frame.
iPhone 14 has Crash detection and satellite connection
Don’t be scared! Models of the iPhone 14 in the United States do not have a SIM card slot. They rely on e-sim, a virtual SIM card. Fortunately, this is not yet coming to the Dutch iPhones. In addition, the new ‘Crash detection’ is also in this iPhone 14 (Plus). With an improved gyroscope and accelerometer, your iPhone can tell if you’ve been in a car accident. Then it can send out an SOS signal or call 112.
It can do that via satellite. So it doesn’t matter if you are connected. You can call the emergency number anywhere. Through a special UI you can see where the satellite is in space. With a clear sky, it only takes 15 seconds for your message to arrive. This way you can get help faster. This is also useful for the ‘Find My’ feature. This is only available from November.
Pre-order Friday, release date iPhone 14 a week later
The iPhone 14 (Plus) is available in five different colors: Midnight, Starlight, Product Red, and Blue we were already familiar with with this ‘normal’ iPhone. As a new color for both the normal models and the Pro models, we see ‘Purple’.
The iPhone 14 has a suggested retail price of 1019 euros. If you want a slightly larger model (with a better battery), choose the iPhone 14 Plus. this cost 1169 euros. You can upcoming Friday September 9, 2022 place a pre-order for these models. The release date of the normal iPhone 14 is then Friday September 16. The iPhone 14 Plus is ready October 7 available. At that time, this phone will be in the shops (or on your doormat).
