The iPhone 16 has many new features compared to the iPhone 15. If you are unsure which of the two suits you best, it is useful to take a closer look at those new features. This makes it easier for you to determine whether it is worth it for you to pay a higher price for the iPhone 16, or to go for the iPhone 15.

Thinner edges, so a slightly larger screen

Although the dimensions and weight of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 are almost the same, the iPhone 16 does have thinner edges. As a result, the screen is no longer 91.3 cm²only 91.7. This makes no difference to the resolution, because it is 1179 x 2556 pixels on both devices.

However, the minimum brightness is only one nit (compared to 2 to 4 with the iPhone 15). Handy in extremely dark spaces. Furthermore, the Ceramic Shield of the glass has been further improved and is now 15 percent stronger.

The A18 chip supports Apple Intelligence

The iPhone 15 runs on an Apple A16 Bionic chip. Although there is nothing wrong with that, the iPhone 16 with the A18 chip is still a lot faster. You just don’t notice it much with daily use. It will be especially useful if Apple Intelligence ever shows up here. The iPhone 16 is prepared for this and also supports it, but its predecessor does not. No problem at all at the moment, but perhaps sometime in the future. For exactly the same reason, the RAM has also gone from 6 GB to 8 GB.

The iPhone 16 has an action button

Last year, the iPhone 15 Pro received a so-called action button instead of the silent switch. You decide which action you assign to this button. You can still put your iPhone on silent, but you can also use it to activate a Focus, turn on the flashlight and much more. This button is missing on the regular iPhone 15, but we do see it on the iPhone 16. Very useful that you can now decide for yourself what you want to do with that button.

The camera control is on the entire iPhone 16 series

A brand new feature for the entire iPhone 16 series is the camera control. You can find this on the right side of the new iPhones, below the lock button. With the camera control you open the Camera app and get direct access to multiple camera functions. For example, you can zoom in or out by swiping left or right. It is also possible to maintain focus while recomposing. All this is possible without having to touch the screen of your iPhone. Using it does take some getting used to.

The ultra-wide-angle camera has been improved

For starters, the camera island on the back has changed shape, with two lenses directly underneath each other. This was done so that you can record spatial videos that you can watch with an Apple Vision Pro. It is also now possible for the first time to take spatial photos.

Taking macro photos with a regular iPhone is now also possible for the first time. Macro mode is automatically activated as soon as you hold the camera close to a subject. The ultra-wide-angle camera also has a slightly wider aperture (f/2.2), which ensures better photos in poor lighting conditions.

The iPhone 16 has better battery life

The iPhone 16 lasts about 2 hours longer than the iPhone 15 (22 hours compared to 20 hours). Using it without charging is therefore no problem, even during a long day. In addition, charging is also much faster with the iPhone 16. Wired this goes up to 30 watts, while with the iPhone 15 it is only 20 watts. Wireless charging is possible up to 25 watts (compared to 15 watts with the iPhone 15).

All features of the iPhone 16

Of all the iPhone 16 features in a row, the longer battery life and the new buttons are the real plus points at the moment. The faster chip and more RAM are nice, but they are not of much use yet. So it will still be disappointing until Apple Intelligence becomes available here. Then it will turn out that you get quite a lot of new functions for that higher price. It remains to be seen when the time will come.
