Apple announced four different iPhones during the iPhone 16 event. These are the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. In this article, we look at what the improvements are and what’s new with the iPhone 16 Plus.

iPhone 16 Plus Colors

The iPhone 16 Plus comes in a number of new colors. The colors are a bit more saturated this time and stand out a bit more. You can choose from the following colors for the iPhone 16 Plus:

• Ultramarine (blue);
• Blue-green;
• Pink;
• White;
• Black.

With the iPhone 15 Plus you could choose from the following colors:

• Black
• Green
• Pink
• Blue
• Yellow

Faster chip

Apple has put a new processor in the iPhone 16 Plus and that is the A18 chip. It is not only a lot faster than its predecessor, but also fully optimized for use with AI, or: Apple Intelligence! In addition, this chip now also has support for ray tracing in games and is (according to Apple) 30 percent faster than the one in the iPhone 15 Plus (the A16 chip). This is the same chip as in the iPhone 14 Pro.

Slightly better battery

The iPhone 15 Plus already had a pretty decent battery life. You could watch 26 hours of videos on a single charge. The iPhone 16 Plus takes it a (little) step further. With a full battery, you can watch 27 hours of videos.

Improvements for the camera

The camera changes are perhaps the biggest improvements on the iPhone 16 Plus. First of all, the camera island on the back of the iPhone 16 Plus is different. It is now pill-shaped, with two lenses directly underneath each other. On the iPhone 15 Plus, they were diagonally opposite each other.

This design now makes it possible to record spatial videos, which you can then view on a Vision Pro (or some other VR glasses). Brand new is that you can now also take spatial photos!

The iPhone 16 Plus’s main camera remains unchanged, so you can still shoot at 48 megapixels and an f/1.6 aperture. The ultra-wide camera does receive some improvements, including a wider aperture and autofocus.

The f-number has been reduced from 2.4 to 2.2, making for better wide-angle photos in low light. But that’s not all: for the first time, you can take macro photos on the regular iPhone. This mode is automatically enabled when you hold the camera close to a subject, at which point the iPhone automatically switches to macro mode.

New button: Camera control

New is the Camera Control button. You use this button to take photos and videos faster. It is a touch-sensitive button, so it knows whether you press the button gently, press it hard or swipe over it.

In addition, this button has an additional function. While you point the camera at something, you will get more information about what you see after tapping. Think of details about a restaurant you are standing in front of, information about a book you found, or even the breed of dog you meet on the street.

Action button: from the Pro to the iPhone 16 (Plus)

The iPhone 16 Plus now also gets the action button. This button was introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max and has now also found its way to the Plus.

This button replaces the traditional silent switch and can be used for a variety of functions. By default, you use the action button to silence your iPhone, but you can also configure it for other functions, such as enabling a Focus mode, activating the flashlight, or much more.

iPhone 16 Plus prices

As you can see, Apple has provided the iPhone 16 Plus with quite a few improvements. But what is the price of all this beauty? Apple has adopted the prices of the iPhone 15 Plus for the iPhone 16 Plus. And that is good news, because it means that the device has not become more expensive.

There is no price difference between the colors of the iPhone 16 Plus. It is available with 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB storage.
