It’s no surprise that the iPhone 16 Pro Max has good battery life, but this battery test shows just how good it really is.
iPhone 16 Pro Max battery test
The iPhone 16 Pro Max appears to have the longest battery life of all smartphones this year. The website PhoneBuff has now conducted a battery test in which the iPhone 16 Pro Max competed with the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. The test consisted of various app functions, all controlled by a robotic arm.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max eventually went total 28 hours and 14 minutes with more than 12 hours of active screen time and 16 hours of standby. This performance sets a new record and beats every other smartphone PhoneBuff has tested to date. Watch the iPhone 16 Pro Max battery test in the video below.
Compared to the Samsung S24 Ultra
The Samsung S24 Ultra also scored not bad with a value of 27 hours and 18 minutesbut the iPhone 16 Pro Max still lasted an hour longer. Predecessor iPhone 15 Pro Max achieved 27 hours and 45 minutes when it was tested on iOS 17 a year ago.
PhoneBuff’s iPhone 16 Pro Max battery test was also a little more strenuous, with more simulated scrolling through Instagram and other apps than before. PhoneBuff uses a programmed robotic arm, which makes for one of the most realistic battery tests we’ve seen yet.
Instead of repeatedly playing videos or scrolling through websites until the phones run out of battery, the PhoneBuff test uses the entire spectrum of features. Think of sending and receiving messages, processing email, surfing the web, scrolling through social media apps, watching YouTube, gaming, listening and streaming music, using Google Maps and much more.
The other iPhone 16 models
Website PhoneArena has also conducted a battery test, but not only with the iPhone 16 Pro Max, but with all iPhone 16 models. This is a simpler test that only looks at browsing, video watching, and gaming. The results are therefore different from those of the PhoneBuff test. They are useful for comparing the performance of the different iPhone 16 models.
This test also shows that the iPhone 16 Pro Max is unbeatable:
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 22 hours and 39 minutes of browsing, 10 hours and 23 minutes of video watching, or 12 hours and 4 minutes of gaming
- iPhone 16 Plus: 18 hours and 5 minutes of browsing, 10 hours and 24 minutes of video watching, or 10 hours and 32 minutes of gaming
- iPhone 16 Pro: 16 hours and 35 minutes of browsing, 8 hours and 29 minutes of video watching, or 9 hours and 39 minutes of gaming
- iPhone 16: 16 hours and 48 minutes of browsing, 7 hours and 30 minutes of video watching, or 9 hours and 52 minutes of gaming.
The difference between the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Pro is not huge. If you value performance when gaming and browsing over watching video, you are even slightly better off with the regular iPhone 16, which is the cheapest of the series with a starting price of € 949.
