We now know this about the iPhone 17 Air
The iPhone 17 Air comes instead of the iPhone 17 Plus. A lot of rumors have already appeared and refuted, so it is high time to list what exactly we expect from it!
Design
The most striking of the upcoming iPhone 17 Air is the design. It will be the thinnest iPhone ever! How thin exactly remains guessing. There are rumors that go out 5.5 mm on the thinnest point and a bit more on the location of the camera island. The thinnest iPhone so far is the iPhone 6, with a thickness of 6.9 mm. The 17 Air will therefore be a lot thinner than that.
The Air may get a glass part around the Apple logo that is integrated into an aluminum frame. This design can be seen in a few renderings and dummy models that have appeared recently.
To colour
The Air will probably be available in the colors black, white, light gold and light blue. The blue hue would be a very light blue, similar to the blue that Apple used for the MacBook Air.
Screen
We expect the iPhone 17 Air to get a 6.6 inch OLED screen, which is hardly smaller than the 6.7 inch of the iPhone 16 Plus. It looks like Apple brings the Always-on screen to the entire new iPhone series for the first time. This means that, among other things, the clock always remains visible, even when the iPhone is locked. For this, the refresh rate has been increased from 60 Hz on the iPhone 16 to 120 Hz.
Camera
Due to the thin design there is less space on the inside and therefore the iPhone 17 Air only gets one camera on the back. According to rumors, that is the same 48-megapixel wide-angle camera as that on the iPhone 16 models. One camera on the back means that you cannot make spatial videos or photos with it.
Another rumor says that all iPhone models coming on the market in 2025 will get an improved 24-megapixel camera at the front. That camera will significantly improve the image quality and make it possible to crop more without loss of quality.
Performance
It is expected that the iPhone 17 Air will receive the A19 chip and the iPhone 17 Pro the A19 Pro chip. In that respect, the Pro is a little faster. He will probably also get 12 GB of memory and the iPhone 17 Air has to make do with ‘only’ 8 GB. With home-garden-and-kitchen use you will not notice that much difference, with heavier tasks probably. Both devices support in any case Apple Intelligence.
Battery
Due to the thin housing, there is less room for the battery. Apple optimizes the battery life with, among other things, improvements to the processor and a battery with a higher density that may use silicon anodet technology. There are rumors that say that the iPhone 17 Air has a worse battery life compared to other iPhones.
The iPhone 17 Air may get a battery of 2800 mAh, which is comparable to the battery in the iPhone 12. Other rumors assume a battery with a capacity of 2900 mAh.
Other rumors
We have now mentioned the most important points, but there are still some smaller rumors:
- The iPhone 17 Air receives the 5G Modem chip from Apple.
- There will be no physical SIM-slot in the iPhone 17 Air.
- The iPhone 17 Air gets WiFi 7 support.
- The front camera comes to the left of the Dynamic Island instead of the right.
