Apple is working on the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which will get a noticeable change. This is what the custom design looks like!
iPhone 18 Pro (Max)
In 2026 we will see another series of new iPhones, including the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. According to rumors, Apple is working on a number of important changes to the iPhones, both above and under the hood. One of those adjustments is the Dynamic Island, which is reportedly much smaller on the new generation of the iPhone. This will be a noticeable change with the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Apple introduced the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The feature replaces the notch, the notch at the top of previous iPhones. The Dynamic Island hides the Face ID sensor and the front camera, but that will change with the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple places the Face ID sensor under the screen, so the Dynamic Island no longer has to hide this sensor.
Smaller Dynamic Island
With the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, only the front camera disappears under the Dynamic Island. It has been clear for some time that Apple is working on a smaller version of the Dynamic Island and we will finally see that change with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max). The feature becomes more compact, leaving you with more space on the display of the new Pro models. That is an important improvement, because in some cases the Dynamic Island still takes up too much space.
This is no longer the case with the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. There are several rumors about the position of the more compact Dynamic Island, but these now appear to be based on a translation error. A Chinese report mentions a new component in the left corner of the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro (Max). Where this was previously translated as the Dynamic Island, this now appears to be the Face ID sensor. This disappears under the screen, which is not visible on the front of the iPhone 18 Pro (Max). The Dynamic Island does not change position on the following Pro models.

Apple is working on a major change for the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, because the Dynamic Island is being overhauled for the first time in years. Contrary to previous rumors, the Dynamic Island remains centered at the top of the iPhone screen. The Face ID sensor is moved, but it disappears under the screen. Users will probably not notice much of this change.
With the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max you get a little more space on the screen, but that is not the only change.
