iPhone Had Most Successful Third Quarter Ever (and Apple Expects Even More)

The iPhone 16 has only just been released, but it has already ensured that Apple experienced its most successful third quarter ever with the iPhone. The most striking thing: the iPhone 16 has to do without the most important functions.

iPhone has best quarter

At the beginning of September, Apple released the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. The devices have improved cameras, new processors and support for Apple Intelligence. Users will not notice much of the latter for the time being, because the functions are not yet available. According to new reports, that doesn’t matter, as Apple had its most successful third quarter ever with the iPhone.

Apple will not present the official figures until October 31, but research company Canalys has already shared the first reports. This shows that Apple has done good business, because never before have so many iPhones been sold in the third economic quarter. This is not only due to the demand for the iPhone 16, but also due to the continued popularity of the iPhone 15 series.

Apple is almost overtaking Samsung

The Canalys report mentions several reasons for the iPhone’s successful third quarter. For many people who bought a new phone during the pandemic, now is the time to switch to a new device. The iPhone 15 is still very popular, making both the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 16 in demand. The difference between the market share of Samsung and Apple decreased in the third quarter, if only smartphone sales are taken into account.

Samsung had 21 percent market share in this quarter, while Apple had 17 percent. The difference was much larger in previous quarters, with Samsung in particular having to make concessions. The third quarter was already extremely successful for the iPhone, but Apple has even higher expectations for the next period. It’s not just the holidays, Apple Intelligence is also released in the United States and a number of other countries.

iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 popular

Apple expects that the arrival of Apple Intelligence will make the iPhone 16 even more popular. The first features will be available this fall, probably at the end of October with iOS 18.1. Together with the holidays, Apple Intelligence must ensure that the iPhone sells even better in the fourth quarter than in the third quarter. In Europe, Apple Intelligence will come later, so the new technology will probably not (yet) result in higher sales figures.
