The naming is the biggest difference, because the iPhone 16th is – just like the iPhone SE – a cheaper version of the regular iPhones. Why does Apple opt for a new name of the iPhone SE in 2025?
Major update for the iPhone
For a long time there have been rumors that Apple replaces the iPhone SE for the iPhone 16th. The usually reliable Apple analyst Mark Gurman confirms that now, he also expects a name change. It is not very strange that Apple opts for a new name, because the cheapest iPhone gets a huge update. Apple emphasizes the major changes by changing the name of the iPhone SE to the iPhone 16th in 2025.
The iPhone 16th becomes a cheaper version of the iPhone 16. The phone gets a 6.1-inch OLED screen, Face ID, A18 chip, action button and a 48-megapixel camera. These are major improvements, certainly in comparison with the specifications of iPhone SE 2022. Now that the successor to the iPhone SE is taking over so many functions of the iPhone 16, it is a more logical step for the iPhone 16th to choose in 2025.
Release of the iPhone 16th
We don’t have to wait long for the successor of the iPhone SE 2022, because Apple is already announcing the phone this week. On Wednesday, February 19, 2025 Apple presents the new generation of the iPhone SE. Then we also know exactly which functions come to the phone and whether Apple indeed opts for the iPhone 16th. In any case, there seems to be a good chance, especially now that Gurman speaks of the same name.
Unfortunately, the new naming also comes with a disadvantage, because the price of the iPhone 16th is higher than we now see at the iPhone SE 2022. It is expected that the iPhone 16th will receive a starting price of 599 euros. That is still much cheaper than the iPhone 16, which you now get for € 789.
