It has been clear for some time that Apple is working on the fourth generation of the iPhone SE. The current generation was released in 2022 and has an outdated design. The iPhone SE 2022 still has a home button, 12-megapixel camera and Lightning port. The iPhone SE 4 is expected to receive a major update, with a modified design and Apple Intelligence. The new generation reportedly looks like the iPhone 14.

That means the iPhone SE will finally get Face ID and an OLED screen. We saw these features before on the iPhone 14. The fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to get a 48-megapixel camera, but will be limited to just one lens. With iOS 18, Apple Intelligence comes to the iPhone, but not all models support the new technology. For example, only the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max are expanded with the AI ​​functions. Apple Intelligence is expected to be available on the entire iPhone 16 series, but the iPhone SE 4 is now also added to that list. You no longer need the most expensive iPhone for Apple Intelligence.

The usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman predicts that all AI functions will come to the next iPhone SE. This has to do with the release of the device, because the iPhone SE 4 is not expected until 2025. The chance that Apple will then release a device that does not support Apple Intelligence is small. At the moment, only iPhones with an A17 Pro chip or later work with Apple Intelligence, so the iPhone SE 4 is expected to get a powerful processor.

It’s not yet known which chip that will be exactly, but for Apple Intelligence, the iPhone SE 4 will need an A17 Pro chip or better. The cheapest iPhone will therefore get a huge update in 2025, which is good news for anyone who doesn’t want to pay top dollar for a new phone. In the United States, the next iPhone SE is estimated to start at $469 or $499.

That’s between $40 and $70 more expensive than the iPhone SE 3, which starts at $429. In the Netherlands, Apple charges $529 for the iPhone SE 3, so the iPhone SE 4 will likely cost $569 or $599 here. That’s a big difference from the regular iPhone, which costs at least $795.75. This way, users get access to the latest features without paying top dollar for the new iPhone.
