It is quite confusing what Apple is planning with the iPhone SE 4. Development was first postponed, then completely canceled and now suddenly resumed. In any case, it is good news for anyone looking for a more affordable new iPhone.

The latest message about a new iPhone SE comes from well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who announced on Twitter that Apple has restarted development and that the iPhone SE 4 will be the first in the iPhone SE series to receive an OLED display. This is at odds with a message he posted on Twitter in January.

iPhone SE 2024 is a modified iPhone 14?

Among other things, Kuo predicts that the iPhone SE 4 will more or less become a modified 6.1-inch iPhone 14, which will probably go into production in early 2024. A release in the spring of 2024 is therefore likely. It is not yet clear whether the new iPhone SE will also receive iPhone 14 features such as Face ID and a double camera with night mode.

He does indicate that the new iPhone SE 2024 will receive a 5G chip from Apple (not one from Qualcomm). However, just like the current version of the iPhone SE, it will only support Sub-6GHz and not yet the very fast mmWave 5G. He also expects that Apple’s 5G chip will also appear in, for example, the Apple Watch and the iPad in the near future.

No new iPhone mini format

If Kuo’s new rumor is correct and the iPhone SE 4 does indeed get a 6.1-inch screen, then there will be no new iPhone mini size. Although the latest iPhone mini is still popular, Apple only opts for relatively large iPhones, even when it comes to the new iPhone SE. A missed opportunity in our opinion. But yes, things remain vague around the iPhone SE 2024, so we’re not giving up hope just yet.
