Your iPhone is packed with useful features, but there are also some that you don’t need at all. In this week’s iPhone tips, we’ll show you which ones you should turn off!
7 Features That Are More Useful When You Turn Them Off
In principle, these functions should not have been on your iPhone at all. But since they are there, it is at least useful that you can disable them. In these iPhone tips, 7 functions that are more useful if you disable them. And of course, we show you how to do that!
1. Sent from my iPhone
When you send an email through the Mail app, it automatically ends with the phrase “Sent from my iPhone.” This is an automatic feature that is of no use to you and you may even find it annoying. There are plenty of people who manually delete the phrase every time, so in these iPhone tips we’ll show you how to disable the feature altogether. Here’s how:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap on ‘Mail’ and scroll down;
- Tap ‘Signature’;
- Tap ‘Sent from My iPhone’ and delete the text.
Of course, you can also choose to put a different text here.
2. Disable automatic lock
Number two of these iPhone tips is useful when you only need your iPhone for a short time. It is just annoying that the screen is automatically locked every time. It is much nicer to turn off that automatic function and just lock your iPhone manually when you really need to. Here is how to set it up:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap ‘Display & Brightness’;
- Tap ‘Auto-Lock’;
- Check the box next to ‘Never’.
Please note that it is safer to choose a slightly longer time slot. This way you still have to unlock the phone after a while, so that not everyone can just get into your iPhone. In that case, choose three, four or five minutes, so that your iPhone is locked after a slightly longer time.
3. Control Panel via Lock Screen
While Control Center is very useful for quickly turning certain features on and off, it’s not very secure that you can open it from the Lock screen. Because if you’re not paying attention, practically anyone can change settings on your iPhone, because unlocking is not necessary. That’s why we’ll show you how to disable that feature completely in these iPhone tips:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap ‘Face ID/Touch ID & Passcode’;
- Enter your access code;
- Scroll down and disable the ‘Control Panel’ option.
4. Keyboard sounds
When you type on your iPhone, you hear a sound with every keystroke. You may be used to it by now, but it can be quite annoying for the people around you. Especially if you are often using your iPhone in public places, it is social to turn this function off. In this week’s iPhone tips, we show you how to do that:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap on ‘Hearing & Haptic’;
- Tap ‘Keyboard Feedback’;
- Make sure you turn off ‘Sound’ here at least.
5. Search bar on the home screen
Number five of this week’s iPhone tips has to do with a redundant search button. When you’re scrolling through the tabs on your home screen, you’ll see three dots at the bottom that indicate which tab you’re on. If you stop scrolling, they’ll turn into a search button. That search button is completely redundant, because you can just as quickly open Spotlight by swiping down on the screen. So remove the button, so you can’t accidentally tap it. Here’s how to remove it:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap ‘Home screen & app library’;
- At the bottom, turn off the ‘Show on home screen’ option.
This will only remove the search button, the three dots will still be there.
6. Automatic app downloads
If you leave Automatic App Downloads turned on, apps you install on your iPhone will automatically be installed on your other Apple devices. This means that apps can end up on your Mac or iPad without you even realizing it, even though you probably don’t want them to. That’s why we’ll show you how to turn off Automatic App Downloads in these iPhone tips:
- Open the Settings app;
- Scroll down a bit;
- Tap on ‘App Store’;
- Disable the ‘App Downloads’ option.
7. Tracking requests from apps
This is the last of this week’s iPhone tips: every time you download an app and open it for the first time, you’ll get a tracking request from that app. Since pretty much everyone defaults to “no” to this, it’s a better idea to set it so that these requests don’t show up at all (your answer will always be “no”). Here’s how to set it up:
- Open the Settings app;
- Tap on ‘Privacy and security’;
- Tap ‘Tracking’;
- Turn off ‘Allow tracking requests from apps’.
