Does the sound of your AirPods Pro sometimes crackle? That happens more often. A group of AirPods owners have now filed a mass claim with Apple.
Creaky AirPods Pro: a known problem
Several users are having a problem with the AirPods Pro. When you used the earphones you heard a soft crackling sound. In addition, the active noise cancellation also caused some problems.
Apple already admitted the problem in 2020. In the description of the problem on the Apple website the following can be read:
- Some AirPods may emit a crackling sound or static in loud environments;
- Active noise cancellation does not work according to specifications. This results in less good bass sound and louder background noise;
The company allowed AirPods owners who encountered the cracking problem to exchange the earbuds. They could do this through Apple Support, a visit to the Apple Store or contact an authorized Apple service provider. At first this seemed to solve the problem.
Yet the issues surfaced again. And in a new one mass claim it can be read that Apple has not completely solved the problem in the newer versions of the first AirPods Pro.
AirPods Pro 2 also have problems
It is described that Apple has improved a number of components for the AirPods Pro 2. And with that the cracking seems to be gone.
But to be fair: there are also known cases of other sound problems. The problems then vary from sound that sounds louder (or softer) on one side to strange synchronization problems. As a result, the image on YouTube, for example, is no longer synchronized with the sound.
Mass claim still ongoing
It remains to be seen what Apple decides for the affected first-generation AirPods Pro. Currently, this mass claim focuses on American AirPods Pro owners with problems.
