Your own AirPods have a name, but you can easily change that. You do this in the following way.
Change the name of your AirPods in iOS 17
- Open the box of your AirPods and connect them to your iPhone;
- Tap ‘Settings’ and go to ‘AirPods [naam]’;
- Tap ‘name’ and change the name of your AirPods;
- Tap ‘Done > Previous’ and the name has been changed.
We have a nice extra in these iPhone tips: you can also use emojis in the name of your AirPods. The possibilities are endless and you can really make something special out of it.

2. Check battery status on iPhone or Apple Watch
Do you want to know how long your AirPods will last you today (before they run out of power)? Then you should check the battery status. You do this on your iPhone or Apple Watch as follows.
Open the Apple Watch charging case near your iPhone. You will then immediately see the battery status in the pop-up screen. Are your AirPods already connected to your iPhone and are you currently wearing them in your ears? Then there is another way to check the battery status. Then go to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone and tap the name of your AirPods. You will then see the battery status at the top.
You can also view the battery status of your AirPods on your Apple Watch. To do this, your AirPods must first be connected to your Apple Watch.
- Tap ‘Settings > Bluetooth’ on your Apple Watch;
- Tap your AirPods to connect them to your Apple Watch;
- Then press the side button and tap the battery status;
- Scroll down, under ‘Accessories’ you will find the battery status of your AirPods.

3. Restore AirPods to factory settings
If you want to sell your AirPods or they no longer work well, you can reset them to factory settings. In this last tip of our iPhone tips we show you how. Please note that this will erase all previously made connections to iPhones, Macs and iPads.
- Place both earplugs in the box;
- Go to ‘Settings > Bluetooth’ and tap the i sign behind the name of your AirPods;
- Choose ‘Forget this device’;
- Open the AirPods box and press and hold the button on the back of the box until the light starts flashing orange.
