‘Is Samsung reducing phone production due to weak sales?’

One of Samsung’s two huge factories in Vietnam suddenly runs at half power. At least that’s according to testimonials from local workers at Reuters. Poor sales of phones are said to be the cause, and according to some workers, production has never been lower.

Samsung production down

The global economy is struggling, which has consequences for the sale and ultimately the production of goods. According to sources from Reuters the production of Samsung phones is suddenly on the back burner. The ‘Thai Nguyen’ factory, along with another factory in Vietnam, accounts for half of Samsung’s annual production of phones, but the factory is not currently operating at full capacity.

Workers work there three or four days a week instead of the usual six days, and they also do not work extra hours at night. Some witnesses say they have never seen production this low before. On the other hand, a year earlier, Samsung never produced phones in the Thai Nguyen factory, according to the same people. Reuters adds in its article that it is not aware of possible increases in production in other countries. Samsung also builds its phones in India and in its home country of South Korea.

‘Largest in the Netherlands’

More tech manufacturers are cutting production or announcing layoffs. This also happened at Netflix, Microsoft, TikTok, PayPal and Twitter, among others. According to recent figures, Samsung remains the largest smartphone manufacturer in the Netherlands and the sale of smartwatches also increased at the brand. Phone sales worldwide were also predicted to decline, yet Samsung has seen its market share rise in the past quarter. Samsung will hold its next Galaxy Unpacked event on August 10, where it will announce, among other things, two foldable phones, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Z Fold 4.
