Alfa Romeo’s brand new compact SUV is fast approaching. It now suddenly seems that it bears the name Brennero, while previously this was all but denied by the Italians.
Alfa Romeo is expected to release a brand new compact SUV in the new year. A car that almost certainly shares its basis with group members such as the Peugeot 2008, Jeep Avenger and Opel Mokka-e. This also means that fully electric propulsion will be on the menu. A very important newcomer for the Italian brand, which for the time being only uses fully electric propulsion with the very exclusive 33 Stradale. Now Alfa Romeo hints that the newcomer will bear the name Brennero.
Wait a minute, Brennero? Yes, it really looks like that name will be used for the first time in 2020. Even though Alfa Romeo indicated earlier this year that it would in any case not be the ‘Brenner name frequently suggested on social media’. That’s still true, although it doesn’t make much difference. In a tweet from Alfa Romeo, it shares several coordinates important to the brand, including that of the Brenner Pass, which is called Brennero in Italian. So it will most likely be a name after that famous mountain pass, just as the Stelvio is named after the Stelvio Pass.
Now the question is when the curtain will come off. We are aiming for an unveiling in February, possibly around the Geneva Motor Show. By the way, we already have a very good idea what the Brennero will look like, thanks to leaked images. Based on this, our illustrator created the above renders.
