Besides Pagani, Ferrari and Lamborghini are real home-garden-and-kitchen brands. The Italians only make hyper exclusive collectibles, but even within that category it can always be more special. That is why there is now the Pagani Huayra Tricolore.
If the combination ‘Pagani’ and ‘Tricolore’ sounds familiar to you, that is not surprising. In 2010 there was already a Pagani Zonda Tricolore, according to the same theme. Both cars are a tribute to the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force’s stunt team. The Huayra, of course based on the Roadster, is therefore also somewhat in an air force theme.
That does not stop with the mandatory tricolor on the flanks. The special Huayra gets a unique, more aerodynamic ‘front bumper’, a new airscope on top, a special diffuser and a unique rear wing.
Like the exterior, the interior is said to be inspired by the Aermacchi MB-339A, the jet fighter used by Frecce Tricolori for the stunts. This is evident from special coverings and materials, but also from unique details. The most tangible proof of this is the arrival of a genuine ‘anemometer’, which keeps the driver informed of the current ‘air speed’ in a senseless and charming way.
The most remarkable thing about this extra special Pagani, however, is that the engine has gained some horsepower. Where a regular Roadster has to do with 764 hp and the fierce Huayra BC manages to break the 800 hp limit, this Tricolore gets no less than 840 hp. The torque may also be there: 1,100 Nm. That is very promising, with an empty weight of a paltry 1,270 kg. Of course, all that beauty costs something: € 5.5 million, excluding taxes. In theory then, because with an edition of three copies, the car is undoubtedly sold out before we put this message online.
