Plug-in hybrid four-wheel drive?

Immediately after the unveiling of the Avenger, Jeep presents an extra adventurous version: the Jeep Avenger 4X4 Concept. A preview of how a rougher four-wheel drive Avenger could become, although it remains to be seen whether it will actually get four-wheel drive.
We are only just a little aware of what the Avenger has to offer, or Jeep immediately shows a special version of it. The Jeep Avenger 4X4 Concept is, as the name suggests, a study model with which Jeep imagines a more off-road version. The Jeep Avenger 4X4 Concept has thicker bumper work with more prominent skid plates on it, extra lighting just below the grille, it stands on thick off-road wheels and on the roof we see two roof racks. There is also a higher hood with an air intake in it.
The latter seems to betray one of the most essential aspects of this study model. The Avenger, which stands slightly higher on its legs, probably has a fuel engine on board. That in itself is no surprise, after all, we already know that the Avenger, unveiled as a purely electric car, will also come on the market with fuel engines, but Jeep speaks with the Avenger 4X4 Concept about ‘a future expansion of the 4Xe models’. It also says 4Xe on the tailgate. That could mean that there will actually be a four-wheel drive Jeep Avenger with a (plug-in) hybrid powertrain.
If that turns out to be the case, that’s pretty big news. The (e)-CMP base did not offer that option to date. However, the Avenger is on a further developed variant of it and it is therefore possible to fit an electric motor that drives the rear wheels and works together with the front-wheel-drive fuel engine. Time will tell.
