Jogging in the rain can take a lot of effort. It can have a positive effect on both your body and your psyche. However, good planning and water-repellent, waterproof and breathable sportswear are important.

Jogging in the rain? At first that sounds very intimidating. Who decides voluntarily to do sports outside in the wet and cold? There are four good reasons to do your training even in bad weather:

  • Empty running tracks: Not everyone can bring themselves to go jogging in bad weather. This has the clear advantage for you that the streets and paths are much emptier than is the case when the weather is nice. This way you can go running more relaxed and concentrate on yourself.

Jogging in the rain has a number of advantages. Be sure to heed the weather warnings. During storms and thunderstorms, you should refrain from training outside. On a normal rainy day, you can go for a run without any worries as long as you are properly equipped:

  • Plan your route: You should plan your run as early as possible. It is best to make sure that your route starts and ends at your front door. So you can do your stretching exercises at home in the warm and get rid of your wet clothes immediately after training. In addition, it can make sense to avoid very muddy paths and forest paths in particularly rainy weather.

  • Weatherproof and breathable sportswear: The right equipment is the be-all and end-all for jogging in the rain. This primarily includes a waterproof and water-repellent sports jacket. A cap or light hat will also keep your head warm and prevent your face from getting wet. In addition, non-slip running shoes with breathable and quick-drying running socks are recommended.

  • Onion principle: It is best to dress according to the onion principle. It is better to use several thin layers than one thick layer. It is important that you are not dressed too warmly and sweat too much. For example, under the running jacket you could wear a functional undershirt, a running shirt and a long-sleeved shirt. You’re dressed just right if you feel a bit cold at the beginning of your run.

  • Warm shower after training: Immediately after your jog in the rain, you should take a warm shower and change your clothes at home. This way you can be sure that your body does not cool down too much.
