Kia has had the electro taste for a while. After the successful e-Niro and the warmly received EV6, the brand is already looking ahead to a new large electric SUV. The Koreans release the first design sketches of the EV9.
Kia will pull the curtain on the Concept EV9 in Los Angeles next week, a study model with which Kia looks forward to an all-new electric SUV. It is the second model in Kia’s line with so-called dedicated electric models that for the time being only consists of the EV6.
The Concept EV9 is still a study model, but just assume that you will see various design elements of the show car on Kia production models in the long run. The Kia EV9 promises to be a relatively angular and ruggedly designed SUV, which is likely to be close to the Sorento in terms of size.
No study model without somewhat elusive talk and so Kia speaks of a car with an ‘adaptive interior space’. Whether that means the furniture in the EV9 will be very flexible, or whether the climate control and mood lighting will adapt to your ‘mood’, for example, remains to be seen. Kia not only releases design sketches of the exterior of the Concept EV9, the interior is also already being drawn. The study model has a fairly minimalist cockpit in which a large display together with a wide center tunnel and a strikingly shaped steering wheel determine the image.
Undoubtedly, the Concept EV9-derived production version will be based on a variant of the E-GMP platform, a modular base developed specifically for Kia and Hyundai electric cars. The EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Genesis GV60 are already using this. Off to LA!
