Kia EV6

The Kia EV6 is three years old and the Koreans believe that the first model of the EV label, consisting purely of electric cars, could use a makeover. This is the Kia EV6, which has been updated both inside and out and technically.

Well before Kia launched the EV6, the brand already had electric models. It already had electric versions of the Soul and Niro. However, the EV6 was the first member of Kia’s EV label, which it created for its models that are only available with electric powertrains. The EV6 was a pioneer in more ways than one. It was also the first Kia to be on the E-GMP platform and the first to be drawn according to the brand’s current Opposites United design philosophy. Kia’s design language has continued to evolve on models such as the EV5, EV9 and the upcoming EV3 and now Kia’s multiple pioneer is being brought completely up to date again.

The front of the Kia EV6 in particular has been significantly changed. Just like the EV9 and the other younger EV brothers of the crossover, the Kia EV6 also gets so-called ‘Starmap’ lighting, headlights in which the LED daytime running lights are made up of wild hook shapes. The plastic element between the front cover and the bumper has a different shape and the bumper itself has also been given a new design. All versions of the EV6 are visually updated, from the regular variants with and without the GT-Line looks to the actual GT version. At the rear, the visual changes are less drastic. The new rear bumper in particular attracts attention here. The part around the license plate is no longer made of black plastic and less of it is used in the rest of the bumper. Kia is also introducing new paint colors and newly designed alloy wheels.

There are also technical changes. Until now, the Kia EV6 was available with a 58 kWh battery and with a 77.4 kWh battery. The EV6 now gets a new 84 kWh battery that replaces the 77 kWh variant. According to the Korean specifications, the EV6 comes – as Long Range with rear-wheel drive – 494 kilometers without recharging. Please note: this is according to Korean specifications. The EV6 with a 77.4 kWh battery and a 229 hp electric motor on the rear axle can now travel 528 kilometers according to the WLTP standard we use. So don’t be surprised if the updated EV6 with its new, larger battery pack will soon go further than the 77.4 kWh version. Fast charging is again possible with up to 350 kW. Kia also promises that the updated EV6 is stiffer because it has made the B-pillar thicker. The sound insulation must also be improved and Kia also indicates that it has revised the dampers.

The two connected, curved displays in the EV6 have been updated and are slightly different in shape and benefit from new layouts. Also renewed: the mood lighting. Kia also gives the EV6 a new steering wheel and adds not only a new inductive charger that should hold your phone better in place, but also a fingerprint scanner with which your car should be able to start.

Extensive European specifications are not yet available.
