Four-wheel drive, 265 hp and 350 Nm

Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid
Kia presents the plug-in hybrid version of the new Sorento. The strong forces of 265 hp and 350 Nm are available for all four wheels. It is also possible to drive fully electrically. There will be a five- and a seven-seat version.
The new generation of Kia Sorento appeared six months ago. The hybrid without plug will be in the showrooms next month, first it is time to introduce its plug-in hybrid brother. This ‘PHEV’ will go on sale at the beginning of 2021 at prices as yet unknown.
The plug-in hybrid powertrain delivers a system power of no less than 265 hp and 350 Nm of torque. This is sent to all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. Most of the power is provided by the 1.6 liter T-GDi petrol engine. It benefits from the new Kia Smartstream technology. For example, the Continuous Variable Valve Duration technology determines how long each intake valve remains open or closed, based on the driving conditions.

The electric motor is also not bad with 66.9 kW (converted 90 hp). This power source draws power from a 13.8 kWh package of lithium-ion polymer batteries. Unfortunately, the data on range – the Sorento PHEV can cover most short distances on the electric motor alone – and consumption are still unknown.
The battery pack does not obstruct the space in the Kia Sorento plug hybrid. The luggage compartment of the five-person SUV is a hefty 898 liters; of the seven-seater with one row of seats folded 809 liters and with the third row upright 175 liters. Just like the regular hybrid, this PHEV is available with the digital instrumentation, extensive infotainment and many driver assistance systems. The warranty of 7 years or 150,000 km also applies, also to the motor and battery pack.
