Large traffic jams are not (yet) despite relaxation

The home work advice has changed slightly and in combination with the corona admission ticket, more things are possible again. However, this does not immediately lead to a significant increase in congestion, the ANWB notes.

From September 25, the advice applies to work from home if possible and to work at the office if necessary. Previously it was still ‘work at home unless there is no other option’. Although the advice is very similar, there is certainly a relaxation. It seems inevitable that more people will return to the office. However, during the first morning rush hour after the relaxation, the traffic on the roads was not too bad on Monday, the ANWB reports. “A large part of the commuter traffic still appears to avoid rush hour”, the organization notes. At the peak of rush hour, there was 210 kilometers of traffic jam on Monday morning. “That is more than 40 percent fewer traffic jams compared to the Monday morning rush hour in 2019.”

It’s still early days, of course, it may be clearly busier this week or the coming weeks. The busiest rush hours with the most commute are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. “The question is whether the number of traffic jams is also significantly less than before the corona time,” according to the ANWB.
