Lawsuit against Carlos Ghosn starts in Japan

Today the lawsuit that Nissan has filed against former director Carlos Ghosn starts. He is suspected of fraud and tax evasion and Nissan wants to see money from him. Ghosn himself is not present at the trial. He is still in hiding in Lebanon.

Nissan accuses Ghosn of pushing millions back in his time as Renault-Nissan CEO. Today a lawsuit has started in court in Yokohama in which the car manufacturer hopes to be right, reports Reuters. In a statement, Nissan indicates that it wants to hold Ghosn responsible for “all the financial damage the company has suffered as a result of its misconduct.” The amount for which Ghosn is being charged is by no means tender at more than 80 million euros. Ghosn himself was not present in court, but was represented by his lawyers.

It goes without saying that Ghosn himself is not present in the Japanese court. He fled Japan late last year after being released on bail. Ghosn said he had no faith in the Japanese legal system, which he says immediately assumes guilt. Ghosn, in turn, has denied all of Nissan’s allegations and has also filed a lawsuit himself against the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance. He is demanding damages of 15 million euros, an amount that is considerably less than for which he himself is being charged. Now we have to wait and see who will ultimately win.
