G-Shock regularly releases special and limited editions of existing watches. The G-Steel and MT-G lines have now been expanded with a very special model: the Formless Tai Chi, designed by the Chinese artist Chen Yingjie
Promising young Chinese artist
Chen Yingjie – also known as Hua Tunan – is a promising young Chinese artist who combines traditional Eastern techniques and Western graffiti in his work. His spectacular (and often very large) paintings are made using spray cans and ink spatter, resulting in impressive animal and human portraits. Very characteristic of his style is dynamics and movement.
For G-Shock, Yingjie has created a design that adds an extra layer to the watches. A subtle pattern in his signature style is applied in gray to the textured black strap. The case cover of the MT-G model has a Tai Chi concept design, and the back of the G-Steel model is engraved with his signature.
What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi or Tai Ji is a Chinese movement art that stems from the martial arts. The emphasis is on the inner experience and development and the balance between Yin and Yang. This is in contrast to sports where self-defense or a competitive element is important, such as karate. By doing the exercises, the life force and energy – the chi – will flow. Chen Yingjie’s design therefore represents change and the flow of time.
Two very special G-Shocks
Of course you don’t put such a special design on just any watch. Both the GST-B200TJ-1A and the MTG-B1000TJ-1A are the top model of the series from which they originate. Both are Radio Synchronized for time synchronization to the hundred thousandth of a second. With the Bluetooth smartphone link you can access more functions via the special G-Shock app on your smartphone.
The case in soothing black ionic emphasizes the concept even more. In addition, both watches come in a specially designed packaging.
