While Toyota in particular is pumping big news into the world, there is also news from Lexus. The brand says it has a very special piece of technology in development: an EV with a manual gearbox.

Not everyone welcomes the electric car with open arms. A frequently heard argument is the lack of driving experience that an electric car would offer you. Lexus is sensitive to this and indicates that it has an electric car with a manual transmission in the development rooms.

Lexus has equipped a UX 300e with a gear lever and a clutch pedal. Of course, the prototype does not have an actual manual transmission. However, the UX 300e in question can simulate the presence of a manual gearbox. The powertrain basically acts like there’s a manual gearbox in the car that the driver can get through virtual gears. Smart software makes it possible to simulate the shifting experience of different types of cars.

Whether and when Lexus will bring such technology to the market is not yet known. Don’t be surprised if the production version of the Lexus Electrified Sport Concept – a kind of electric successor to the almighty LFA – comes with the technology. The Lexus Electrified Sport is a sporty coupe with a long nose and a powertrain that is able to catapult the car from a standstill to a speed of 100 km / h in about 2 seconds.
