Lexus LBX Morizo RR Concept

On the day that Toyota presents a thoroughly updated GR Yaris, Lexus previews a sporty top version of the LBX. The Lexus LBX is a technical brother of the Yaris Cross – and therefore also of the Yaris – but the Japanese have assigned an even more powerful power plant than the GR Yaris. Boss above boss.

This is the Lexus LBX Morizo RR Concept, a precursor to a very potent sporty top version of the Lexus LBX. The Lexus LBX as you know it now always has a 136 hp hybrid powertrain. This Morizo RR Concept produces no less than 305 hp and 400 Nm.

Those 305 hp are generated by an even more powerful variant of the now 280 hp strong blown 1.6 three-cylinder that also serves in the updated GR Yaris. In the LBX Morizo RR Concept, shifting is always done with an eight-speed automatic transmission that distributes the power to all four wheels. So no manual gearbox for the top LBX. The sporty LBX is equipped with more extensive spoiler work all around, has a fire pipe on either side of the rear bumper, stands on 19-inch alloy and is peppered with yellow accents.

Then the answer to the burning question: ‘What does Morizo mean?’ That is the nickname of former Toyota CEO and current Chairman of the Board of Directors Akio Toyoda. Learned something again.

It is not yet known whether and when Lexus will launch a production version of the LBX Morizo RR Concept.
