Lightyear continues and sees light on horizon
There is hope on the horizon for the Dutch Lightyear. Lightyear’s operational branch was declared bankrupt earlier this year, but the solar car adventure continues. Lightyear reports that it is starting a new industry dedicated entirely to the Lightyear 2.
At the end of January, the sad news came that Lightyear had put an end to further production of the Lightyear 0. In addition, an immediate deferment of payment was requested for Atlas Technologies BV, the operational branch of Lightyear which, among other things, housed the production of the Lightyear 0. The operational branch was declared bankrupt shortly afterwards, but the sun has not definitively set for Lightyear. Full of enthusiasm, Lightyear is setting up a new company.
Lightyear founder Lex Hoefsloot says that Lightyear has managed to raise enough money to start a new company. Lightyear thanks the Individual Investors Group (IIG), an American investor and lender, for that. Via IIG, €8 million has already been raised in one day. Lightyear says it can now focus again on the Lightyear 2, Lightyear’s more affordable solar car for which tens of thousands of pre-orders have already been received. Lightyear does indicate that it must find additional capital in order to actually start production of the Lightyear 2.
Lightyear’s Intellectual Property (IP) previously housed in Atlas Technologies Holding BV will now be housed in the new company. More will become clear soon.
