In the footsteps of the Carlton

Lotus will soon be back with a sedan for the first time since the Carlton (Omega). At least, a sedan-like one. Now we know it’s called Emeya and we’ll be seeing it soon.

Let’s rewind to (almost to the day) two years ago. Then Lotus announced that four brand new electric models would appear in five years. The first of these we have known for a while, that is the Lotus Eletre. An SUV, because otherwise you wouldn’t participate nowadays. The second will be a sedan-like, then another high-legged model and finally an electric supercar. It is now time for the sedan, which Lotus itself showed earlier this year with a special print on it.

The latest rumors were that the car, which follows in the footsteps of the Lotus Carlton, would bear the name Envya, but that turns out to be wrong. Lotus now shares a shadowy photo and already announces the name: Emeya. We wonder how to pronounce that. We will undoubtedly hear that on September 7, because then the Lotus Emeya will be presented. Yes, next Thursday already. That’s getting along nicely. Incidentally, it seemed on the spy images last spring that the Emeya will not be a sedan but a liftback. Lotus describes the Emeya itself as a ‘Hyper-GT’.

Furthermore, the car is really nothing like the Lotus Carlton, certainly not in terms of drive. Count on comparable technology to the Lotus Eletre. It is available with 612 hp to no less than 918 hp electric powertrains and, thanks to a 112-kWh battery pack, can travel up to 600 km on a charge. The driving range is logically a bit higher with the Lotus Emeya, due to the lower air resistance and possibly also a lower weight.
