More than 1,200 hp strong

Lucid Motors has presented a new absolute top version of the Air. Meet the Lucid Air Sapphire, a car that gives the 1,020 hp Tesla Model S Plaid sleepless nights.
With the Air, Lucid has developed a promising electric top sedan. The Lucid Air already has various powertrains. There will be a rear-wheel drive version with 88 kWh battery and 487 hp and a whole range of variants with four-wheel drive and larger battery packs. The electric lung capacity of the four-wheel drive versions is 93 kWh, 112 kWh or 118 kW and the outputs vary from 629 hp to no less than 1,126 hp. That 1,126 hp strong variant already delivered 6 hp more than the most insane Tesla Model S, the Plaid. There’s now a version that goes even further: the Sapphire.

Lucid Air Sapphire
Unlike the already existing four-wheel drive versions of the Air, the new Air Sapphire has not two, but three electric motors. Two of them are in the back, one in the front. Lucid Motors has not yet released detailed technical specifications, but the power should be more than 1,200 hp. A sprint from a standstill to a speed of 60 mph (97 km/h) should be completed in less than two seconds. For comparison: the 1,126 hp Dream Edition Performance needs 2.5 seconds to do this. In addition, Lucid promises a top speed of more than 322 km/h. Lucid calls the Air Sapphire an “electric supersport sedan” for good reason.
The Lucid Air Sapphire gets carbon ceramic brakes and is equipped with a package of spoilers, lips and edges. In addition, Lucid gives the absolute top version of the Air special sports seats and a sports suspension. Also, things like the ABS system, the steering, the stability control and the traction control have been revised. Lucid further parks the Air Sapphire on special alloy that measures 20-inches in the front and 21-inches in the rear. Michelin PS4S tires specially designed for the car are wrapped around the wheels. According to Lucid, the Air Sapphire can be driven very tightly through the bend because each rear wheel is driven by its own electric motor, and the two electric motors also have a positive effect on straight-line stability.
The first examples of the Lucid Air are to be built in the first half of 2023. Whether and when the Lucid Air Sapphire will come to the Netherlands is not yet known at the time of writing. We do know what the Air Sapphire should cost in the United States: about €245,000. Detailed technical specifications will follow later.
