Apple has announced another new Mac! The Mac mini 2024 has been officially unveiled via a press release. Apple has updated the design of the Mac mini for the first time since 2010. The new generation of the computer has a width and depth of only 12.7 centimeters. The Mac mini lives up to its name, because it is Apple’s most compact desktop computer ever. The housing has again been made of aluminum, but has been completely climate neutral since this year. This makes it the first COâ‚‚-neutral Mac.
With the Mac mini 2024, Apple has opted for five USB-C ports for the first time. Two of these ports are placed on the front, just like on the Mac Studio. The device has three Thunderbolt 4 ports, which is one more than we saw on the Mac mini 2023. Under the hood we see a big change, because the Mac mini has made the switch from the M2 chip to the M4 chip. That’s a big step, because it is Apple’s most powerful processor at the moment.
M4 and M4 Pro chip
We saw the M4 chip earlier on the iPad Pro 2024 and much faster than the M3 chip. With the Mac mini the difference is even greater, because the previous generation of the device still runs on the M2 chip. With the Mac mini 2024 you can choose from the M4 or M4 Pro chip. With this processor you get 16 GB of RAM as standard, compared to 8 GB of RAM on the Mac mini 2023.
The Mac mini 2024 requires more RAM as standard due to the arrival of Apple Intelligence. Apple has fully designed the device for all new AI functions, which mainly run locally on the Mac mini. Therefore, 16 GB of RAM is required so that the device can process multiple Apple Intelligence tasks at the same time. Apple has also built a special AI part into the M4 and M4 Pro chips.
Apple has introduced Thunderbolt 5 with the Mac mini 2024, provided you choose the variant with the M4 Pro chip. That device has no fewer than three Thunderbolt 5 ports, which we have not seen before on the Mac. Do you choose the M4 chip? Then you get three Thunderbolt 4 ports as standard. Release of the Mac mini 2024
The Mac mini 2024 has been officially announced, but is not yet available in stores. The device appears Friday November 8, 2024 in all stores. The starting price is the same as the Mac mini 2023. You pay 719 euros for the entry-level model with 256 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM. The model with 512 GB of storage and 16 GB of RAM costs 949 euros, with the M4 Pro chip it is 1669 euros.
